Coupon Stacking: Can You Combine Two Discount Codes?
The short answer
Almost never with two promo codes at once. The vast majority of checkout systems have a single "coupon code" field, and even where the interface allows multiple attempts, applying a second code typically just replaces the first rather than adding to it. If a site claims you can stack unlimited codes, treat that claim carefully — it's rarely how the underlying payment system works.
What genuinely does stack
Stacking still happens — just not usually as "code + code." The combinations that regularly work together are:
- A promo code + a bank or card offer. A store's coupon and your bank's cashback or instant-discount campaign are processed by two different systems, so they often apply independently.
- A promo code + store credit or loyalty points. Loyalty balances are usually deducted after the coupon discount is calculated, not instead of it.
- A promo code + free shipping threshold. If your order already qualifies for free delivery, adding a percentage-off code doesn't cancel that out.
- Cashback browser extensions + a coupon code, in stores where the affiliate network allows it (some explicitly forbid combining cashback with certain promotions — check the fine print).
How to actually maximise savings without "stacking"
Instead of hunting for two codes, compare the value of your available single codes and pick the best one for your specific cart — a smaller percentage off a big order often beats a bigger percentage that excludes half of what's in your basket. Then layer on a payment-method offer if your bank has one running, since that's applied separately from the coupon.
